My parents just bought a copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in a bookstore in A. in France. I am utterly confused... My PotterCrazy brother confirmed that it is indeed the real thing!

Anyone else come across this weirdness lately?

ETA: Oh, and more importantly, would you buy the book and read it straight away?

I must admit that I enjoyed the suspense, the wait for the official hour of release, unwrapping the book and turning that first page... When I got my hands on OotP I spend several minutes staring at the title page and reading all the tiny printing information. Maybe I'm weird like that but I just wanted to prolong that moment of suspense.

I still have fond memories of coming home after a night out with friends, annoyed that none of the local bookstores would sell the book around 01:00 (I live in the Netherlands). I spend 30 minutes sitting on my bed, leafing through PoA and GoF, just for the sake of it and then decided to go to bed. After flipping the covers THERE IT WAS! My sister (love her!) who works in a bookstore had managed to bring home a copy of the book and she'd hid it so that I wouldn't find it before the official release time :) I didn't put the book down until it was time for breakfast (and yes, I was a wreck that whole day!)

So, this scenario will not repeat itself this time however, I do wonder what I'd do if I were there with my parents now, staring down at a stack of mint HBP covers in that bookstore in Aix. I'd probably buy it, ask them to wrap it for me and give it to my parents for safekeeping. There's no such thing as reading a new HP book in the middle of the night with gazillions of other Potter fans all over the world ;)

ETA2: People seem to be going crazy over the fact that there's already a book out there. There seems to be a frenzy of locked posts and deleted newsitems going on on the HPF. I thought they were the ones who wanted a scoop!
...Anyway. If you want to know more, drop me an e-mail.

I, in my place, would like to know more about the rules concerning the early release of the books and what happens if you would disclose information about the contents of the book. I understand it from a fandom point of view (I do not want to be spoiled either) but how does it acutally work legally. Is there some sort of international thing going on? Where can I find more information about this?

Apparently there's going to be a short item on SBS6 Hart van Nederland next Friday! (SBS6 is a Dutch television channel)

Oh, and just for the record, this journal will remain spoiler free!

Shortly after the release of the books I will be on a campsite in France without Internet access so it will probably be spoiler free until a few weeks after the release date. Should I post anything concerning the new book that might contain spoilers I will post it behind a cut and give ample warning in the subject line!

OMG *algemene hysterie*.
Ik geloof maar al te graag dat je dat boek wil hebben ;), alleen is het niet bepaald legaal van die winkel..
Hopelijk post je broertje niet te veel spoilers. ;)
Maar in ieder geval, als zij het kunnen dan doe ik ook een poging, ondanks het feit dat door het Belgisch onderwijs nog maar twee jaar Engels heb gekregen :P. Dan koop ik er gelijk een woordenboekje bij, voor het geval dat.

J & D hebben ook nog maar een jaartje of twee Engels gehad geloof ik (en ja, Joep zal ook met een woordenboek lezen, denk ik zo). Ik heb ze op het hart gedrukt om geen spoilers door te bellen/smsen dus ik hoop ook van harte dat ze dat niet doen :)

Wat betreft die winkel... Ik vind het ook een heel raar verhaal, maarja, Frankrijk he, ik weet eigenlijk niet of die Engelse regels daar ook gelden. Enfin, ik ga lekker om middernacht naar de boekhandel om de rest van de nacht door te lezen :) Komt allemaal goed :P

Tja, ik ben dan wel twee jaar ouder dan ze, maar ik heb dan wel al vijf jaar Frans.

Ja, het lijkt me wel vreemd om daar HBP in een winkeltje te zien liggen, terwijl hij officieel nog niet verkocht wordt, maar wel erg leuk, stiekem ;).

Ah, in België worden er ook PotterParties gehouden, je zal wel nerveus worden van het afwachten, maar het loont :).

Hier worden alleen in Amsterdam PotterParties gehouden helaas. Ik doe een poging om iets te regelen in Utrecht via HPF, maarja, dat loopt dus nog niet zo heel erg lekker ;) Ach, wat er ook gebeurt, ik lees het boek toch het liefst in m'n uppie in bed in het midden van de nacht! En dan 's morgens als de zon opkomt met een broodje en een kopje thee op het balkon verder lezen. Heb er al helemaal zin in :)
